Participation engineering (PE) is the application of scientific and mathematical principles to the design and implementation of viable and efficient systems, which facilitate the contribution of people in participatory processes. The PE has its roots in the discipline of collective intelligence (CI), which applies both to stable work teams and to groups of people who have to collaborate temporarily on a certain task. This publication is more focused in situations where a group of people, for a limited time, have to contribute to a specific activity, for example, making a decision, creating new knowledge, or making a prediction.

Although the Real Time Delphi methodology (RTD that SmartDelphi applies is originally based on the Delphi method, the fact is that digitization constantly opens new options for creativity. With each new application, the opportunity to introduce improvements and new functionalities is experienced. Participatory projects go beyond the simple application of one technology or another and must be planned to achieve the best results. Technology can help, but you have to know how to ask the best questions, choose the right experts, plan your time and, in short, you have to manage the whole process.
